Before their first Summit League game ever, we caught up with the Tommie's senior captain and Minnesota native, Alex Balfour. With an impressive 2-5-1 record in their first Division I season, St. Thomas looks to make a statement in their first Summit League Game against the University of South Dakota. Learn more about captain Alex Balfour and tune in at 6pm tonight and 1pm on Sunday to cheer on the Tommies. Q: What is your Major/ field of study? I am a public policy economics major. Q: What has been the biggest challenge for UST so far in its first Division I season? Our biggest challenge has probably been adjusting to speed of play at the D1 level. Almost all of us were completely new coming to this level of soccer, and it was important that we got everyone on the same page quickly and figured out how to move the ball faster. Q: Personally, how have you adjusted to play at the Division I level this season? Personally, I just know I knew I had to play faster, stronger, and smarter than ever before. I've been challenging myself to pick up my speed of play, and to be more confident in my strength on the field. Q: What are your thoughts on starting the conference season in the Summit League? We are super excited to start conference season in the Summit League. Our non-conference play has been a great test for us, and I think we have gotten more and more prepared for conference in every game we play. We know we are the underdog this season and are looking forward to proving that we are meant to be here. Q: What is your favorite thing about St Thomas Soccer? I love how supportive our team is of one another and how much we all work for each other. We are a possession team that needs everybody on the same page and working together to be successful. We always manage to lift each other up and play for each other which I think is really special. Q: How would you describe the environment/ team atmosphere at UST? I absolutely love our team culture. We have such a positive and supportive team environment and all just genuinely love being around each other. Our culture gets us through tough times of the season and makes celebratory moments that much better. Annie Williams
