Mark Privratsky We're back on the D1 beat and we have players and teams to celebrate, especially the 3 Minnesotans playing on the nation's highest scoring team, Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I would like to start by apologizing to the Tommies for skipping them on my tracker! Perhaps I subconsciously wanted to avoid crossing into Annie Williams beat, but either way, I'm excited to add in the 19 (!) St Thomas players from Minnesota. That stat also corrects a claim I made last week about NDSU having the most Minnesotans of any D1 roster. St Thomas now holds that crown. Now that I've corrected my past mistakes, lets dive into the impact players from around the country. (Photo Credit: Wisconsin-Milwaukee Athletics) Rafferty Kugler, Clara Broecker and Haley Steel - Wisconsin Milwaukee Wisconsin Milwaukee is 9-1 and LEADS THE NATION in points per game with 42 goals for an average of 4.2 goals a game. Wowza. They started the season with 3 wins at a pace of 20 (TWENTY) goals for, 0 against. Since then they have beaten Depaul, lost a nail biter to Wisconsin in OT, and are coming off two 7-0 wins in the Horizon league. These three Minnesotans are a big part of the core squad. Rafferty Kugler has 5 assists in 10 games, while Clara Broecker has been indispensable with 899 minutes and 1 assist in 10 games, and Haley Steel has played consistently in all 10 games with 481 minutes. The Panthers play on ESPN+ often and I'm definitely looking to watch one of their coming games. The next appearance on ESPN+ is October 10th against UIC, with conference tournament implications likely. By the way. Milwaukee player Jelena Sever scored FROM THE KICKOFF this weekend. Please please check this out, you will not regret it. This is the first time the lead picture was not a Minnesotan, but I mean, come on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1_-UqcmgdQ Mia Sennes - Florida Atlantic Mia is a Redshirt Freshman Forward for the Florida Atlantic Owls who hails from Edina. In her last 3 games, she has scored 2 goals against North Texas and FIO, with the latter goal being a crucial tying goal to secure a point on the road. On the season she has 2 goals and 2 assists in 11 games. Mia and the Owls continue their Conference USA season this Friday against Middle Tennesee at home. Meredith Haakenson - Michigan We've got over 100 Minnesotans playing across the country at programs big and small, but perhaps no one is making as big an impact on as big of a team as Meredith Haakenson. The #17 ranked Wolverines are 7-1-2 and Meredith is a big part of that, scoring a goal and assisting on 3 others in 685 minutes. In their last 3 games, Haakenson assisted in their 2-1 win away at Cincinnati, scored and assisted in a 2-1 win against Illinois, and played 101 minutes in a well earned tie with Wisconsin. Michigan is sure to challenge for the Big Ten Title this year. Michigan play at Purdue this thursday at 7pm. Tia Johnson - Purdue-Ft Wayne Tia Johnson is a Senior Defender from Maple Grove who previously played for the Thunder Academy. Tia played at Northern Iowa for two years before transfering to Purdue-Ft Wayne. We can't just hype goals and assists, we also respect the solid defensive presence in the back. Tia has started 10 of 11 games for Mastodons (let that mascot sink in), playing 760 minutes this year. The Mastodons are 3-4-4, 2-2 in the Horizon League. They play at Milwaukee this Saturday at 8pm. Claire Odmark - Wisconsin Claire is a Junior Forward from White Bear Lake, playing on one of the best teams in the Big Ten, Wisconsin. Clair has found her form this year with 4 goals and 1 assist in 11 games. She scored 2 goals in the Badgers 3-2 win over Providence, then two weeks later scored the game winner in a win at Michigan State. Wisconsin is currently 7-1-3 with a game vs Penn State looming on Thursday. You can catch that on Big Ten Network at 7pm. Let's hope they make Rose Lavelle proud (but still finish below the gophers? I kid I kid) (Photo Credit: Tommie Athletics)
