We are 3 weeks in to the College season and the game has never been more accessible to fans. More games than ever are being streamed, which means a bigger platform for the 100+ Minnesotans we've got playing D1. Maya Hansen is breaking records in the Summit League, UW-Milwaukee transfer Rafferty Kugler is stepping up a level at Kentucky, Loyola Chicago Minnesotans are passing the torch, and we now know about the Battle of Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Don't miss the banger of a goal that Minnesota scored in recap!

Highlights

Allow me to introduce you to the Battle of Commonwealth Avenue, the annual Rivalry match between Boston College and Boston U. This year's edition featured 2 Minnesotans who came through the MN Thunder pipeline, Boston College's Andi Barth (St Paul/MTA) vs Boston U Terriors' Marli Rajacich  (Mpls Washburn/MTA). BC took this year's edition  with a 3-1 win after BU took a 1-0 lead into half. The Eagles were too much and eventually overwhelmed the Terriers.

Last year Loyola Chicago were one of the best teams in the Missouri Valley, losing a tough 1-0 game to Purdue in the NCAA tournament. If they are to make a run like that this year, a pair of Minnesotans will hope to play a big role. Amanda Cassidy (Maple Grove/MTA) is a Senior leader on the squad, while Freshman Jordan Pascarella (Blaine/MTA) has already stepped in to play big minutes in her first year. You can watch them play DePaul on ESPN+ on Thursday, September 8.

Rafferty Kugler was at UW Milwaukee for 4 years, with extra eligibility after covid, she chose to try her hand at SEC soccer. While on paper it's a bigger conference, she was also leaving one of the best teams in the country last year, the 19-2 Panthers who beat #14 Xavier in the NCAA Tourney. She's gone from success to success, as Kentucky have started the year 5-1 including a solid win over Purdue in Lexington. Kugler already has 2 assists (as a Defender btw) and looks to play a big role in a potential postseason run for Kentucky who didn't make the Conference Tourney last year

Tell me if this sounds familiar to Equal Time followers, Maya Hansen is creating goals like crazy. She scored a huge goal to snag a tie at Arizona State to start the year and hasn't missed a beat since. She's got 5 assists (tied for 5th in the country) to go with her 4 goals on the year. Don't look now but she's already tied for 6th on the All Time Summit League Goals chart with 32 career hits. By our count she is already the All Time D1 leader in goals at SDSU but we'd need to confirm. Jessica Kellogg of Oral Roberts holds the Summit League record with 48, but 2nd place is Ashley Mcghee (Oakland) with 39. Maya would probably take an NCAA run over the record, but that doesn't mean she may not sit at 2nd all time when this year is over. Chasing her are Sami Feller of Denver and Amy Andrews of Western Illinois who each started the year with 2 less goals than Hansen.
