Minnesotans Playing D1 - October

Over the past two weeks we've seen Minnesotans play roles in leading the Missouri Valley and the Summit League Conferences, young players finding their first goals and people literally giving 110%. As an update to the highlight we did on Wisconsin-Milwaukee last week, they are currently both the highest scoring team in the nation, while also conceding the fewest goals. I have to imagine it's rare form to hold both of those titles at once. Milwauke has scored 51 goals in 13 games, while giving up only 4 goals. They give up a goal, EVERY 3 GAMES while scoring almost 4 themselves. Read the previous MN in D1 piece to read about the Minnesotans pacing their Horizon League leading squad.

This week we added a pair of players from the Wofford Terriers, Abigail McKensie and Lexi Reichenbach. Thank you to everyone who submits new names to us! Feel free to hit us up on social @equaltimesoccer with any additions. This is your recap of 146(!) Minnesotan soccer players playing Division 1 soccer around the country in stadiums big and small. Lets dig in!

Loyola Chicago & Amanda Cassidy lead Missouri Valley

Loyola Chicago started their season with a tough non conference slate, tying Wisconsin 0-0, winning 1-0 at Depaul, but losing tough games to #23 Xavier and away at Nebraska. Since their loss to Xavier on September 12 though, they have run the table, going 4-0-1 in Missouri Valley play. The Ramblers (great mascot name) rely heavily on Junior Amanda Cassidy, who has played 789 minutes across 12 games this year, after playing in all 20 games her Freshman year. Amanda played for the Minnesota Thunder Academy growing up. Her Ramblers take on Illinois State in Normal, Illinois this Wednesday at 6pm before taking on Southern Illinois on Sunday.

NDSU paced by Ellie Schnieder

We've all heard tired coach speak like "Give 110%". It doesn't seem literally possible, but I think Ellie Schneider is giving it a try. Ellie Schneider plays MORE than 90 minutes a game. She anchors the middle of the field for the Bison and has not subbed out a minute this year. Because of College Soccer's unique overtime rules, a stat like this can be possible. Ellie of course has a ton of Minnesotan teammates, with Freshman Loretta Wacek getting her first assist in their 2-1 win against rivals North Dakota. Sophmore Jess Hanley scored her first goal of the year in a win against Oral Roberts last weekend, and also provided an Assist in the win against North Dakota. The game winning goal was assisted by Sophmore Olivia Lovick, who herself had 2 goals in the win against Oral Roberts. North Dakota is 2-1 in Summit League play after a tough start to the year. They play at South Dakota State this Friday at 6pm.

Mara Yapello finds form for UND

Leading up to last weekend's game against Oral Roberts, North Dakota had only scored 1 goal in their last 3 games. Enter 5th year Senior Mara Yapello from Mahtomedi. Mara hadn't scored in 5 games, but found the back of the net against Oral Roberts in their 2-0 win on October 3, then scored the next week in a nail-biting rivalry loss to North Dakota State last weekend. The Fighting Hawks are 1-2 in Summit League play and play the South Dakota double this weekend in Vermillion and Brookings. We'll see if Mara can add to her 4 goals on the season.

Tanner and Lock backstop SDSU unbeaten run

South Dakota State has their sights on a Summit League Title and a NCAA Tournament run. You'd have to say they are on pace, going 12-1-1 with a 3-0-1 record in the league. A critical piece to a championship squad is a lock down defense, and the Jackrabbits appear to have that part of the cliche covered. Sophmore Keeper Jocelin Tanner (Ham Lake, MN Thunder) is currently 37th in the nation in save percentage at .854. She has started 10 games, while Senior Taylor Lock from Lakeville (who also played for the Thunder Academy), has started 4 games, giving up just 2 goals, making 8 saves along the way. The Jackrabbits are 20th in the nation in goals against average, giving up only 8 goals in 14 games.

They continue this weekend with NDSU on Friday and UND on Sunday. The October meeting with NDSU is a huge game for both squads and probably the toughest test that SDSU has had in the conference thus far. I will definitely try to watch this one at 6pm this Friday.  Go to gojacks.com to stream the game(s).

Lexi Huber in form for St Thomas

St Thomas is doing something no one has done before, moving from Division 3 to the Division 1 Summit League this year. They said it themselves that the transition meant adjusting their goals from "Win Now" to a more long term development mindset. You'd hope to see potential that you can build around, or a spark of play to show what could be next year. Even though St Thomas has struggled of late, Freshman Lexi Huber has found a run of form, scoring 3 goals in their last 5 games. What's impressive is that she has scored those 3 goals in 280 minutes, almost a goal a game pace. Lexi is from Stillwater and her brother Logan also plays for St Thomas, while her mom Julie played at the U, and dad Mike played at UW-Parkside.
