D1 MNs: RACE to the Postseason: Hunt drops dimes, SDSU stays undefeated, Sennes and Landrus shine at FAU and teams fight for their Conference Tournament spots

The College Soccer season is moving to its final stages, as evident by the presence of snow on game days already! There are only a few games left for teams to solidify themselves in their Conference Tournaments and we are here to highlight the Minnesotans and their teams in their fights for post season opportunity. Plenty are in fine form at just the right time. Jessie Hunt of Northeastern is 2nd in the Country in Assists, Josslyn Tanner and Maya Hansen are stat leaders for undefeated South Dakota State, and the FAU Owls duo Mia Sennes and Hailey Landrus continue to shine. North Dakota State hold's a Summit League spot in their finger tips with rivalry games afoot, and Lindsey Birch steps in as a First Year for ambitious Omaha. 

​Jessie Hunt 2nd in the nation in Assists

When Jessie Hunt transferred from Wisconsin to Northeastern this year, she was almost certainly looking for a team where she could play a bigger role. She played in 9 games for a successful Badger squad in '21 but only saw 144 minutes. Her bet seems to have paid off for both parties. Hunt is currently 2nd in the Nation with 11 assists in 16 starts, playing major minutes and leading an offense that is 5-1-2 in the CAA and heading to a good spot in the Conference Tourney. She has 5 assists in her last 4, 1 goal and 6 assists in her last 6. Count Jessie Hunt as one to watch come Conference Tourney season.

Tanner and Hansen tally stats as SDSU roll to Tourney

In case you were wondering, South Dakota State still has not lost this season. They've got tons of talent back from an NCAA Tournament team in '21, including a squad of Minnesotans. No surprise Maya Hansen continues to produce, finding her goal scoring form as SDSU bounced back from 2 0-0 draws to win 5 in a row in October. She's got 9 goals and 5 assists to rank 20th in the Nation in points (1st in the Summit League). Josslyn Tanner is featuring in a pure 2 Goalie System, splitter her minutes exactly with Hailee Fischer (guest on Equal Time during her standout Sioux Falls City season), each play a half of the game, alternating who starts. It rare to see it played out as a halftime sub each game, but who can argue with the undefeated record of the Jackrabbits? Tanner is excelling in the role, ranking 4th in the Country in Goals Against Average, giving up just .375 goals per 90 minutes. South Dakota State play at North Dakota and NDSU this weekend, with a chance to clinch home field advantage for the Summit League Tournament. With a 2 point deficit, they have to hope for Denver to slip up in a tough game away to Oral Roberts or at Kansas City.

Florida Atlantic is confident of a C-USA Tournament birth, sitting in 6th for the 8 potential seeds, but they could still climb up to host a Tourney game. Two standouts for the Owls are Minnesotans that we've mentioned before, Mia Sennes and Hailey Landrus. Landrus, a Senior Defender, went for a goal and 2 assists in the Senior night win over UTEP on Oct 7, while Sennes also had a goal and assist. The Redshirt Sophmore added another assist in a tough loss to Louisiana Tech last weekend. The pair have each played major minutes and added goal creation for a team that wraps it's season with Middle Tennessee and Florida International, the two bottom teams in C-USA. The Owls look to have a good runway to a postseason run. 

NDSU wins 3 out of 4, faces Dakota rivals for chance at the Tourney

NSDU was just on the outside looking in for last year's Summit League Tournament. This year, they've put themselves in position going into the final weekend, holding the last and final 6th spot. Last weekend they beat rival North Dakota to be here, setting up even bigger rivalry games vs South Dakota and South Dakota State this weekend. The drama should be in full effect as they play South Dakota on Friday, who sit 2 points above them, before a huge challenge against undefeated SDSU at home to close the season this Sunday. North Dakota faces the same two teams this weekend, the drama of who gets the final spots in the Summit League should be a sight to see! 

Birch plays big role for Omaha as a First Year

Lindsey Birch was an All State performer at Rochester Lourdes for two years, finishing as Runner Up at the '21 2A Championship game, but nothing is guaranteed as a College First Year. Coaches won't always trust an inexperienced player right away, especially a defender. Birch has stepped right into the D1 level and played a role for an Omaha team in solid position to make the Summit League Tournament again this year. She's played consistently, racking up 447 minutes over 13 games, and last weekend scored a goal for a nice cherry on top of an already solid first year.
